Environmental damage to skin manifests in the form of carcinogenesis and ageing as a result of UV light and pollution. Some degree of protection is afforded by the topical application of sunscreens and various products against oxidative damage. Indeed, there are several sunscreens in the market with varying degrees of efficacy in providing protection against UV damage and environmental stressors. However, most products suffer from reduced duration of efficacy, due to their non-regenerative nature. In addition, the degree of protection is also limited due to the modest SPF values of the ingredients.
